Introduction to Gardening is a series of FREE One-Day courses for beginner gardeners open to anybody* aged 19 years or over.
*You do not need to live in any particular area or be in any particular social group to attend - these courses are for everybody!

The course is aimed at beginners and those wishing to learn about gardening.

Courses are held on Saturdays, from 10:30am until 4:30pm (with a break for lunch).
In the morning you learn Beginner Basics - Top Tips to get you started.  Knowledge, tips and techniques, and practical skills, as well as written information to take away. 
Beginner Basics covers: soil and compost, choosing the right site, seed sowing and care, starting plants indoors, pricking out and potting on, transplanting and planting out, aftercare,watering and feeding, and general maintenance.
In the afternoon you learn from the module of your choice and make a planter to take home and enjoy.

We can also offer Follow Up courses and Additional Modules. Full details can be found at the bottom of this page.

Growing and Using Herbs
Learn about herbs and their uses in cooking and medicine as well as in the garden.  Make your own container herb garden – a wonderful addition to any kitchen.
One-Day Course: 4 February, 3 March, 17 March

Worm Composting in the city
City dwellers can make compost too.  This course covers regular compost-making but concentrates on worm composting as it is most suited to small growing spaces. Learn how to make your own "black gold" worm compost in a small yard or garden, or even on a balcony. Turn your kitchen, home and plant waste into wonderful, nutrient-rich compost - the ultimate in recycling!
*No Beginner Basics and no planter-making for this module

Growing food in the city

Learn different and novel ways to grow food in a city environment, whether you have a small garden, a balcony or only a windowbox.  Make your own mini-veg garden to take home, look after and enjoy eating the fruits, and veg, of your labour.

A splash of summer perfume and colour
Learn about flowering plants that provide colour and scent through the summer season.  Make your own flowering planter, take it home and revel in its beauty.

Spectacular summer hanging baskets
Learn how to produce and care for a beautiful hanging basket bursting with colour to brighten up the smallest of spaces.  Design and make your own spectacular hanging basket.

The course is free but if you would like to support the Farm you can make a donation via our JustGiving site.

After you've attended the One-Day Course and covered Beginner Basics, at any time, you can attend a different module as a Follow Up Course. These are only for returning students who have already covered Beginner Basics.  When booking a Follow Up Course it is important that you let me know which module you have previously attended and the approximate date.

If you've had your one free attendance in the current learning year and wish to attend a different module you can attend a Follow Up Course but will need to pay the Additional Module non-refundable fee to help cover costs, payable in advance, via our JustGiving site.
